Cloud Mountain Sanitarium evolved after 25 yrs of riding around the Pisgah, NC area and fine tuning the sweet spot for road and Mt. biking. I was a long distance truck driver and was coming back from Florida and basically got lost and found it by accident 30 years ago.

We decided on Balsam Grove NC. A small little town at 3,000 ft. We picked this neat little town to start a cycling compound where cyclist (of all types) can come and ride right out the front door and do literally 100’s of routes both Road, Gravel, and MTB.

You can pull out on your road bike and go from 3,000-6,000ft if you wish, 3,000-1,000ft into South Carolina and everything in between. We are only about 5 miles from Davidson River Trailhead and dozens and dozens of other trails in Pisgah and Wayahutta forests along with being in the mecca for Waterfall sightseeing, Fly Fishing, Hiking, Canoeing, Kayaking, Hunting, etc.

We sit right in the middle of 100,000’s of acres of national forest. You have unlimited choices really. This is a place cyclist come to get well (hence the name Sanitarium) and go back to your day job in a little better mood. Currently we can hold around 14 people in the house plus an RV site also at house and plans for more expansion to hold around 20-25 of your cycling friends in the future.
